SOUTH HAVEN, MI – A new program will help alert beachgoers about safety conditions on Lake Michigan.
In addition to changing the colored safety flags posted at South Haven beaches this summer, a website will also be updated and text messages sent out when the flags are red, according to a news release from South Haven Area Emergency Services.
The upgraded alert system is being implemented because of an increase in water-related emergencies in 2020, the SHAES release said. Three people drowned, and there were 23 rescues of people struggling in Lake Michigan last summer in the South Haven area.
