JACKSON TWP. Changes are underway to businesses at the corner of Wales Avenue NW and Portage Street NW.
A plaza is being remodeled on the northwest corner of the intersection. Across Portage Street, on the southwest corner, a Circle K convenience store is being replaced and gasoline pumps will be added.
The Stark County Regional Planning Commission gave conditional approval earlier this month to changes being made at the shopping plaza. Elite Development Tallmadge Twelve will build two additions to the plaza, one 4,080 square feet and a second 2,400 square feet.
Developers had to demolish parts of the existing building and rebuild to ensure structural safety, Keith Calvert, a representative for the owner, told the commission.
MINERVA Consumers National Bank has expanded its footprint in Columbiana County.
Consumers Bancorp announced it has struck a deal to buy two branches of CFBank. Consumers signed a purchase agreement to acquire the CFBank drive-up branch in Wellsville and a branch in Calcutta.
The deal has Consumers adding approximately $100 million in deposits, and certain loans and other interest earning assets, along with land, buildings and other assets of the two branches.
The two banks expect the deal to close by the end of June, following reviews by regulatory agencies.
Once completed, Consumers will hold roughly a 12.5% share of the deposit market in Columbiana County, Ralph J. Lober II, president and chief executive officer, said in the press release announcing the deal. Adding the branches strengthens Consumers competitive position in Columbiana County, while complementing the bank s four locations in Jefferson County.

The locally based Job-Applications.com website surveyed more than 1,800 job-seekers from around the country over the past year and asked the hourly wage they expect to earn. Responses were collected from mid-2019 through the end of November.
The national average wage expected came to $11.27 per hour, while applicants said they would take a job paying an average of $10.13 per hour. The national minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, but many would like to see the rate more than doubled.
