ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. Authorities are investigating a fatal three vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Gardnerville resident on Sunday evening near Zephyr Cove.
The second fatal collision in five days claimed the life of a 62-year-old Mammoth Lakes man, who succumbed to injuries he received in a collision in Smith Valley last weekend.
Lawrence Myrold died on Tuesday as a result of injuries received in the collision.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol’s initial report, Myrold was driving westbound on Day Lane approaching Lower Colony Road in a GMC Sierra pickup.
He missed the stop sign at Lower Colony Road and collided with a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup, causing the Dodge to overturn.
Three people were injured in the 8:15 a.m. collision, two critically. East Fork and Lyon County medics responded to the collision. The two critically ill patients were transported by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center. East Fork transported the third person via ambulance.
Reno Police determined Rivera died as a result of a medical event.
Reno Police Sergeant Laura Conklin could not release any details about the medical event, saying that nothing criminal occurred and that it is up to the family to release additional medical information.
She said the case is closed.

A man found unresponsive Saturday near Vassar Street and Holcomb Avenue and later pronounced dead has been identified as 58-year-old Meinrado Rivera, the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner s Office said Monday.
Reno Police responded to an incident Saturday morning and found Rivera unresponsive. He was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
