2021 Showcase award winners announced | WSU Insider | Washington State University

March 1, 2021 Faculty and staff winners of this year’s Showcase awards were announced today ahead of the weeklong celebration of academic excellence. Amit Bandyopadhyay, a faculty member of the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, received this year’s Distinguished Faculty Award in recognition of his achievements in research, scholarship and teaching. Bandyopadhyay will be delivering this year’s Distinguished Faculty Address on March 22. The State of the University address, Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA), Three-Minute Thesis and the Celebrating Excellence Awards Ceremony are among events scheduled during the annual Showcase week, March 22-29. All of this year’s events will be taking place online. Continue to check the Showcase website for the latest information on dates and times of events, as well as ways to participate.

UW announces recipients of Distinguished Teaching Awards · The Badger Herald

The Distinguished Teaching Awards have been held since 1953 to recognize exceptional educators on the University of Wisconsin campus. Faculty, departments and student organizations can submit nominations for faculty members who they feel not only exceeded expectations as teachers but also profoundly changed the community. Associate Professor in English Caroline Gottschalk Druschke, awarded the Community-Based Learning Teaching Award. Professor of Anthropology John Hawks, awarded the Van Hise Outreach Teaching Award, which recognizes excellence in outreach teaching. Professor of Political Science Yoshiko Herrera, awarded the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Professor of English Amaud Johnson, awarded the Chancellor’s Inclusive Excellence Award, which recognizes achievements in diversity and inclusion.

UCD vs UCD Biochemistry Games to memorialize Eric Conn

A friendly global rivalry between undergraduate biochemistry students at UC Davis and at University College Dublin, Ireland, is being launched in memory of plant biochemist Eric Conn (1923-2017), a UC Davis professor emeritus of molecular and cellular biology and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. To be called the “UCD vs. UCD Biochemistry Games,” it will be preceded by a preliminary game, the Eric Conn Biochemistry Quizzes, set for 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, to determine the UC Davis participants.  Students (prospective participants) and the public can register at https://tinyurl.com/y33eyc4v. Up to 500 members of the public can register.

Anna K. Fridley Distinguished Teaching Award Anna K. Fridley Phi Kappa Phi Distinguished Teaching Award Donald Demetriades Donald Demetriades, assistant teaching professor of philosophy, has won the 2021 Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Anna K. Fridley, Distinguished Teaching Award for a faculty member whose accomplishments with students reach beyond the classroom and the library. The award carries a $1,000 prize. Demetriades has taught large introductory philosophy and ethics courses in the Department of History and Philosophy for 20 years. In addition, he has taught in the Honors College for 14 years, where he has taught Texts and Critics’ freshmen seminars as well as the popular advanced seminar “The Arts and Science of Medicine,” for which there is
