Icy Roads Cause Two Accidents in Rural Buchanan County Icy road conditions are being cited as a cause of 2 recent Buchanan County accidents. Just before 5pm Tuesday, Jan. 19, officers were sent to a traffic accident in the 2400 block of Jamestown Avenue (Highway 150), south of Independence. A pickup driven by Victoria Serrano of Oelwein went out of control on the ice-covered road. Her pickup entered a ditch and rolled over, stopping upside down. No one was injured. Photo from Buchanan County Sheriff The second accident happened about 1 hour later, in the 1400 block of 220th Street, east of Jesup. A westbound car driven by Jeryn Loyd of Jesup, went out of control and crossed the center line. It crashed into an eastbound van driven by Kenedy Armell of Vinton. Armell and 2 passengers were take to the Independence hospital. Loyd was taken by private vehicle to a Waterloo hospital.

A New Year, and a New Batch of Speeders to Ticket The New Year is barely a week old, but authorities note that they have already stopped a number of motorists for speed-related violations, like the fellow in the picture. According to the Buchanan County Sheriff s Office, deputies have issued a number of speeding tickets since New Year s Day. The driver in the above photo from Buchanan County, was clocked at 103 mph, in a 55 mph speed zone, in southeast Buchanan County. That motorist was issued a citation, costing them $371.25. The sheriff also notes that speeding is breaking the law, and the cost is not just a fine:
