President Áder Requests Constitutional Review of Waste Management Law

President Áder Requests Constitutional Review of Waste Management Law President János Áder has asked the Constitutional Court for a review of an amendment proposal to a law on waste management approved by parliament last week, the President’s Office said on Monday. In his request, Áder said he considered it unconstitutional that under a provision in the bill producers would be stripped of their ownership rights of their production and industrial waste without receiving compensation. The president said the bill giving concession groups a discriminatory advantage was also unconstitutional. The Orbán government has submitted two legislative proposals to parliament aiming to turn the state-run waste management holding and the national mobile payment systems into concessions, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Wednesday. Fidesz Condemns Ukrainian Authorities Harassing Ethnic Hungarians

Fidesz Condemns Ukrainian Authorities Harassing Ethnic Hungarians Fidesz said the actions were clearly aimed at intimidation and were anti-minority and anti-European. Ukraine is using “the darkest methods reminiscent of the Soviet era” to intimidate its citizens, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Sunday. The minister reacted to recent press reports that Ukraine’s security service launched criminal proceedings against local councillors of the village of Szürte (Siurte), in western Ukraine’s Transcarpathia region, on s

Karácsony Assures Beregszász Mayor of Budapest s Support and Solidarity

Actions taken against the Cultural Alliance of Hungarians in Transcarpathia and its institutions and foundations are reason for serious concern, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Tuesday, citing a letter he wrote to Beregszász (Berehove) Mayor Zoltán Babják. Karácsony said he had expressed his solidarity to members of the ethnic Hungarian community and assured Babják that Beregszász, a sister city of Budapest, could always rely on Budapest’s support and partnership. Karácsony said a recent house search at the college of Beregszász was especially unsettling, considering that the II Rákóczi Ferenc Hungarian College of Transcarpathia is an important institution of Hungarian education and culture beyond the borders.
