Edneyville (May 16, 2021) - Law officers, their families and supporters turned out Saturday evening on Police Officers Memorial Day to pay tribute to fallen officers and hear the community s law enforcement leaders call on them to be "keepers of the light of these fallen heroes."

Buncombe County school psychologist charged with felony child sex offense

Chris Reid, a school psychologist for Buncombe County Schools, was charged May 13 with one count of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor, a felony. Reid, 69, of Candler, was arrested by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and remains in the Buncombe County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.  According to a news release by the Buncombe County Sheriff s Office, a search warrant was also executed the evening of May 13 on Reid’s residence to obtain his phones, computers and other electronic devices. The Sheriff’s Office will conduct a forensic examination of the devices with the assistance of the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, according to the release, which might result in further charges. 

Conviction upheld for man accused of trying to kill his wife during domestic dispute, chase

From staff reports A man found guilty of the attempted first-degree murder of his wife has had his conviction upheld by the N.C. Court of Appeals after judges ruled that no error had been made in his trial. Paul Killian, 60 at the time of his conviction in May 2019, was charged with attempted first-degree murder after a domestic dispute that began when he asked his wife about the status of their relationship. Killian and his wife were separated at the time, and his wife suspected he was addicted to pain medication, court records show.  On Dec. 15, 2017, after an argument at a business off Fanning Fields Road in Mills River, police said Killian began chasing his wife in her vehicle down Boylston Highway, ramming the car and firing shots at her.
