After the 1953 floods and storm surge of December 2013 had devastated businesses, homes and communities it was very clear that we needed this flood defence scheme.
With Lowestoft being the only urbanised coastal area in the UK with no formal flood defences, the flood risk has been a constraint to economic growth in the town.

But now, with the tidal flood barrier to built in Lowestoft’s outer harbour - due for completion in spring 2026 - work is under way on the tidal flood walls to the north and south of the barrier that will protect the town from flooding.

A decision to pick the contractor to build the controversial £153m Norwich Western Link - and to submit a business case for the road to the government - is due to be made within weeks.
To be in with a chance of securing funding and consent for the road, which would link the Norwich Northern Distributor Road to the A47 to the west of the city, Norfolk County Council needs to lodge a business case.

Anglian Indoor Karting was helped to bounce back from the pandemic with a LEP grant

An engineering company which makes top-end horse spas and a karting business which launched a laser maze are among more than 100 firms to net support to diversify and adapt during the pandemic.
DC Engineering in Swaffham and Anglia Indoor Karting in Ipswich have both benefited from New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership’s Business Resilience and Recovery Scheme after the outbreak caused severe disruption to their businesses. Both employ 16 people.
The LEP says it has so far awarded more than £4.8m towards 123 short-term resilience projects and longer-term recovery and diversification ones generating nearly £7.5m of private match funding.
