WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - One hundred days ago, employees at New Hanover Regional Medical Center were taking in their new surroundings and new signage, for one, that Novant was in the house. The new partnership that had been months in the making was now official.
Meanwhile, a pandemic was looming that would change the course of the next 100 days.
“It was a little bit of a hiccup but I think we did a great job managing through it,” said Shelbourn Stevens.

Nearly three months after purchasing NHRMC, Novant Health is beefing up the “regional” in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The private, nonprofit announced a series of changes Tuesday that integrate key NHRMC leaders into Novant’s newly formed Coastal market as well as systemwide roles with the Winston-Salem-based health network. The new lineup means a Brunswick County health care executive is now in charge of NHRMC, while an NHRMC executive takes over the helm at Novant s Brunswick hospital.
Prior to the purchase of NHRMC, its footprint in the tri-county region was limited to Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia. The nearly $2 billion deal expanded that presence dramatically, making the 35,000-employee system the major health care provider in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - Citing declining virus cases in the community, Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center announced on Monday that it is adjusting visitor restrictions.
Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, most adults and children hospitalized at Novant Health facilities in North Carolina will be allowed to have two visitors per day.
“Restrictions remain in place for COVID-19 positive patients who are hospitalized or in the emergency room, as well as patients who are under investigation for COVID-19. Exceptions may continue to be granted in special circumstances, such as end-of-life care,” according to a news release.
