Residents who are 70 years of age or older who have not yet received a vaccine should call 3-1-1 (504-658-2299) or go to ready.nola.gov/getvaccine to make an appointment.
Participating residents will need to be able to arrange their own transportation or schedule RTA paratransit if needed by calling 504-827-7433. The second dose appointment will be scheduled upon receipt of the first dose.
“The culture of New Orleans is one that’s lived outside. [Here] it’s not normal to sit inside,” says resident Ariana Ganak, a small business manager who twice a week works out with five friends in front of her Carrollton neighbourhood home. “We’ve been socialising like that forever, so the pandemic’s not all that different. Drive down any street, you’ll see people sitting on their front porch and on their stoop.”
For travellers, examples of such architectural features are abundant, preserved within 14 historic neighbourhoods, 24 state cultural districts, and 26 National Historic Landmark designations. New Orleans is an example of how traditional solutions to promote comfort and health can work in the 21st century, as well.
