The livestream event honors Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and includes a special dedication to the women who were killed in the Atlanta, Georgia spa shootings in March. At Flushing Town Hall, we are responding to the recent rise in hate crimes as best we know how through the arts, says Ellen Kodadek, Executive & Artistic Director. CONCORD – The Friends of the Concord Free Public Library will present an online piano recital with Tanya Bartevyan on Mothers Day, Sunday May 9th, at 3 pm EDT.
The program will include selections from Chopin Waltzes and Etudes, Schubert Impromptus, and an improvisation on an Armenian song created in the moment.
Ms. Bartevyan has concertized in well known Boston venues such as the Gardner Museum, Jordan Hall, WGBH Radio, the Concord Free Public Library, and internationally in Spain, France, Canada, Switzerland, and Turkey. Her musical studies began at age 3. She is a graduate of Harvard University and the New England Conservatory of Music.

New England Conservatory announces gospel and soul singer Mavis Staples as its 150th annual commencement speaker at its commencement exercises on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. ET.
The ceremonies will take place in historic Jordan Hall and be streamed on NEC s website (necmusic.edu). NEC will also bestow honorary Doctor of Music (hon. D.M.) degrees on five distinguished musicians: Carl J. Atkins, Founding Chair of NEC s Jazz Studies Department; Emanuel Ax, classical pianist; Deborah Borda, President and CEO of the New York Philharmonic; Wu Man, pipa virtuoso; and Mavis Staples.
