12 Facts You Probably Don’t Know About Helen Keller
BY JILLIAN WINN | Monday, June 27, 2016
Helen Keller became deaf and blind at 19 months old. She was famous from the age of 8 for her experience of overcoming great obstacles in order to learn to communicate. This early part of her life is the most well-known, but the story doesn’t end there. Helen would go on to become not only well educated, but famous in her own right as an author and activist. She has even been said to be one of the 20th century s leading humanitarians and was named one of the most important people of the 20th century by
Myles Soule (1690-after 1720).
Nathaniel Soule died intestate before 12 October 1699, leaving his widow with six minor children (age 17 down to age 9). Administration was granted to his widow, Rose (Thorn) Soule by the Bristol County Probate Court. She posted bond of 360 pounds as administratrix of the estate on 12 October 1699 with two others. An inventory reported on that day appraised the personal property at 197 pounds, 16 shillings, including 120 pounds for houses and lands. An account was made on 10 October 1700, and debts and charges in the amount of 23 pounds, 8 shillings and 8 pence included debts owed to Thomas Wait, Joseph Allen Jr, Jonathan Davil, Nathaniel Potter Jr, and Hugh Mousher, and rates paid to Constable Gifford. The remaining estate for distribution totaled 174 pounds, 7 shillings, 4 pence.

I now receive the
New England Historical and Genealogical Register, published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, on the online website AmericanAncestors.org. It is much easier to read and I can save it in a file folder in digital format every quarter. My challenge is to remember to capture it when each issue is released (AmericanAncestors does send me an email as a reminder).
The Table of Contents for the Fall 2020 Issue (Volume 174, number 4) is:
The only item that affected my family tree was the addition of Francis Dudley as a brother of governor Thomas Dudley. Some of the other articles were interesting in terms of the records found and the methodology used to solve the question at hand. How I wish I had in my ancestry Agnes Spencer, wife of Thomas Higginson of Berkeswell, Warwickshire, Ancestor of Nine American Immigrants, Cousin to Diana, Princess of Wales, Sir Winston Churchill, President George Washington, and Others.
