Thames South School is pleased to have received a grant from New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) of $20,000 for remediation of the school swimming pool.
School administrator Diane Carey commented, “We are spending a significant amount of funds to right our continuous leaky pool. There are faults with the original concrete pour which unfortunately results in leaks and other issues during the year. Whanganui s Upokongaro School was announced this week as the beneficiary of an $18,000 grant, allowing the school to resurface its netball courts.
The grant was awarded by the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT), an organisation involved in the operation of gambling machines across the country. Profits from the machines go to supporting community causes throughout New Zealand.
The resurfacing of the concrete courts will enable them to be used as a multi-sport turf.
School spokeswoman Yvonne Leitch-Heggie said the grant will go a long way in engaging students in sporting activities.

The Taranaki YMCA has been given more than $16,000 to go towards maintaining and improving its recreation equipment after Covid-19 hit the non-for-profit organisation’s finances. The New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) granted $16,418 to the YMCA, which has been in New Plymouth since 1881 and offers sports, childcare, after-school care and holiday programmes. “Recreation services is reliant on 100 per cent fee income to be able to maintain its equipment and keep our facilities and programmes running reliably and safely for our customers,” Taranaki YMCA spokesperson Alison Fleming said.
