American Kidney Fund Applauds New Jersey, Washington for Enacting Protections for Living Organ Donors
ROCKVILLE, MD / ACCESSWIRE / May 5, 2021 / The American Kidney Fund (AKF) commends New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Washington Governor Jay Inslee for signing into law important protections for living organ donors. The new laws prohibit life, disability and long-term care insurers from discriminating against living organ donors by declining or limiting coverage due to someone s status as an organ donor and from precluding a person from donating all or part of an organ as a condition of their policy.
AKF worked closely with New Jersey A3199/S2315 primary bill sponsor, Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, to move the bill through the General Assembly, and with Washington SB 5003 sponsor, Sen. Karen Keiser, to move the bill through the State Legislature.

On Monday, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced what they describe as significant easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
The restriction rollbacks are due to significant progress in vaccinations and sustained reduction in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, officials say. The tide is turning against COVID-19 in New York, and we re able to take more steps to reopen our economy, help businesses and workers, and keep moving towards returning to normal, Governor Cuomo said. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is paying for the next round.
On Monday, Murphy announced the “Shot and a Beer” program designed to incentivize New Jersey residents over 21 who haven’t gotten vaccinated to do so and they’ll be rewarded with a free pint.
“Any New Jerseyan who gets their first vaccine dose in the month of May and takes their vaccination card to a participating brewery will receive a free beer,” Murphy said in a tweet.
So far, 13 bars and breweries have signed on to the program with more expected to be added to the list.

Over 1.8 million Kentuckians have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine with updated numbers showing more people leaving the state to get a shot than coming to Kentucky to get one.
Governor Andy Beshear said Monday that more than 92,000 Kentuckians have been vaccinated out of state compared to around 70,000 people that have come to the state for a shot.
The updated numbers also show the state is over 651,000 people away from Beshear’s goal of 2.5 million people having received a shot. The governor has said he will lift restrictions once the goal is met. However, he also said some restrictions could be lifted as the state gets closer.
