Lakewood restaurant and church host vaccine promotion party event Sunday

View Comments LAKEWOOD - All Saints Episcopal Church and La Casa De La Tia Restaurant will host one of 14 statewide “Grateful for the Shot” vaccination events this weekend aimed at promoting the safety of the vaccines and urging more residents to receive them. The restaurant at 202 Main St. will offer the free shots between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, Gov. Phil Murphy’s office announced. All Saints Church, located several blocks away, is promoting the event as one of several around the state using houses of worship to urge people to get vaccinated, Murphy s office said. “Each event will have a ‘block party’ feel in a trusted and community atmosphere with a mix of food, music, and prizes in order to break down barriers to accessing the vaccine for individuals and families,” state officials said.

Food banks share millions in aid | NJ Spotlight News

Credit: (AP Photo/Jeff Chiu) File photo Almost 300 New Jersey food pantries and soup kitchens are sharing in $3.5 million to improve their services to people who have become food-insecure because of the pandemic and are expected to remain as COVID-19 infection rates drop and vaccinations increase. The funding is to enable the distribution network for New Jersey’s food banks to more efficiently meet demand for food assistance that, though lower than its pandemic peak, is still much higher than it was before the pandemic began. Most of the money has been raised by three food banks the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, Mercer Street Friends, and NORWESCAP and has been supplemented by the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund’s Endurance Grants program, said Carlos Rodriguez, president of the Community FoodBank, the state’s largest hunger-relief organization.
