A report by New Jersey Policy Perspective said NJ Transit needs to find funding to speed up its purchases of electric buses in order to meet state environmental goals and it made recommendations about how the agency could do it.
The report said NJ Transit lags behind other transit agencies in purchasing and putting battery-powered buses on the road. It also warned that NJ Transit’s timeline will be “misaligned” with the state’s Electric Vehicle Law, which specifies a target date for 100% electric bus purchases by December 2032.
