The cost of the project, which will transform the station to world-class multi-modal hub, is estimated as Rs 5,000 crores. Nine major global and domestic companies including GMR Highways, Adani Railways and realtor Omaxe are in the race to bag the redevelopment project the station.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the facilities proposed include congestion-free non-conflicting entry/exits to the station premises, segregation of arrival/departure of passengers, adequate concourse area without overcrowding, integration of both sides of the city, and integration with other modes of transport systems. Well illuminated circulating area and sufficient provision for drop off, pick up and parking has been proposed. Request for Qualification (RFQ) has been opened on February 2, he said.

The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), the organisation responsible for executing the redevelopment of the New Delhi Railway Station has invited the request for quotation (RFQ) bids which witnessed participation from national and international companies. The Railways said on Wednesday that nine companies including Adani Railways Transport, ISQ Asia Infrastructure Investments, and GMR Highways, have expressed interest in the revamp project, entailing an investment of around Rs 6,500 crore.
