Prominent Christian ministry Samaritan’s Purse is continuing its recovery work in flood affected areas in regional Australia.
In the wake of historic flooding across many parts of Australia’s east coast last month, Samaritan’s Purse has deployed its disaster relief semi-trailer and volunteer teams to the Hawkesbury River region of New South Wales.
The area was swamped by torrential rain and contaminated flood waters which devastated homes and forced thousands to evacuate.
A spokesman says disaster relief teams from Samaritan’s Purse are working in some of the hardest-hit areas of the Hawkesbury.
The organisation has also sent a disaster response team to Port Macquarie, North Haven and Dunbogan on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.

Australia: Panama disease threatens Coffs Harbour banana plantations
A destructive fungal disease known for wiping out entire banana crops is hitting plantations on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. The disease, known as Panama disease race 1, is threatening a banana supply shortage of the Lady Finger and Ducasse banana varieties.
Coffs Harbour and District Banana Growers Association vice president Wally Gately explained how Panama disease spreads through soil movement: It s a soil-borne disease so it can move with water or it can wash down stream to another farm. It can even just be picked up on mud on tyres.
