On Wednesday, the New River Health District received its first shipment of the Moderna vaccine.
While plans are still being made for public distribution, New River Health Director Doctor Noelle Bissell said they are working as quickly as possible to get people vaccinated.
“We do expect that we will get weekly shipments but we, again, we can’t guarantee and literally it is sometimes a day-by-day decision. The health department is going to be prioritizing one ad, where we get our EMS providers,” Bissell said.
Freezers set to temperatures colder than Antarctica are needed to store the emergency COVID-19 vaccine being distributed around the country.
A Carilion Clinic ICU nurse said Wednesday that she felt a little weepy in getting the first of two vaccination shots that will protect her from COVID-19.
Mary Rogers, who cares for the sickest COVID patients at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, said she and her husband, a Carilion EMT, feel that the vaccine will protect them, their families, patients and the community.
âI strongly support this and I believe in it, and I hope in the coming future to return to some sense of normalcy. I think that is what Iâm banking on. There have been so many life events impacted by COVID,â she said during a media video call.
