Coronavirus Update: Aroostook County, Maine & New Brunswick
MAINE & AROOSTOOK COUNTY UPDATE: There are six new cases in Aroostook County Friday. Meanwhile, the CDC is investigating an outbreak at three schools in the Fort Kent area. Dr. Nirav Shah says the COVID-19 vaccination effort is ramping up across the state. Maine is now receiving about 20,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine per week. As of Friday, over 130,000 Mainers have had their first dose of the vaccine. More than 46,000 people have received their second shot.
NEW BRUNSWICK UPDATE: New Brunswick Public Health reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday. The number of active cases continues to drop slowly in the province now at 256 known cases. Five patients are hospitalized, and two are in intensive care. Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health said, “The steps we have taken to reduce the transmission of this virus are having an impact.” She thanked New Brunswickers for following the directives from Publi

Two of the cases have been confirmed at École Champlain in Moncton. The facilities will remain closed until Wednesday for contact tracing.
Public Health identified two positive COVID-19 cases connected to the Madawaska Regional Correctional Centre. It’s believed that transmission didn’t occur at the facility and no offenders have been diagnosed as positive at this time

MAINE UPDATE: Wednesday s daily report from the Maine Center for Disease Control list four more COVID-related deaths in the state and 462 new coronavirus cases. Aroostook County had eight new infections. So far, about 90,000 Mainers have received their first dose of the vaccine to prevent COVID-19. Over 25,000 have received their second dose.
AROOSTOOK COUNTY UPDATE: Northern Light AR Gould Hospital today is launching its COVID-19 vaccination clinics for people age 70 or older at Northern Maine Community College. The clinics, which are by appointment only, are being held today through Friday. While this week s clinics are full, appointments will be available through the Northern Light AR Gould website on Monday at 2 p.m. They hope to have clinics every week based only on the availability of the vaccine.
