The president of the New Brunswick Medical Society says he is encouraged by the latest provincial budget for 2021-22.
As part of the $10.6-billion document, the Department of Health will see its budget increase by five per cent to nearly $3.1 billion.
Dr. Jeff Steeves said they are pleased to see investments into mental health and addictions, COVID-19 recovery, physician recruitment, and reducing the wait-list for primary health-care providers.
“Our province has long struggled with many critical health-care challenges including a shortage of health-care professionals, long wait times for surgeries, and shortage of mental health and addictions resources,” Steeves said in a statement.
