New Braunfels City Council members on Monday are expected to discuss and consider a recommendation by the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation approving an expenditure of up to $400,000 to Frantic Holdings, LLC for a project that would bring high-speed broadband infrastructure and services to commercial customers in downtown and other areas of the city.
As part of an effort to increase broadband availability, the EDC in May 2020 contracted with Alk Development Services to oversee the project planâs development with Frantic that would bring broadband services at affordable rates to downtown businesses initially.
Frantic plans to utilize existing street poles to deliver backbone routes and connections to each building, using available city and New Braunfels Utility easements as necessary.Â
Intermittent downpours might have kept many registered voters from casting ballots for candidates and issues in five May 1 elections, but officials are expecting many more during the final three days of early voting.
âThis is the cityâs first contested (May) election since 2012 â without them, it would really be slow,â Comal County Elections Administrator Cynthia Jaqua said of the 1,722 votes cast at polls and through the mail since the nine-day early voting period began Monday.Â
Jaqua said 84,034 of nearly 118,000 total registered voters are eligible to help decide races for New Braunfels, Comal and Marion school district trustees, city council members in New Braunfels, Garden Ridge, Bulverde and Marion, and 18 proposed amendments to New Braunfelsâ city charter.
The Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce recognized Griffin Asset Management owner Glenn Griffin as this yearâs âSmall Business Person of the Year.â
Members of the Chamberâs Executive and Small Business Week committees made the announcement Tuesday while conducting a surprise visit to the honoreeâs business on North Walnut Avenue.
Griffin said he was surprised and humbled to receive the recognition.Â

Unofficial results from the first 36 hours of early voting didnât exactly point to the record turnout predicted for the areaâs first May election in two years.
Through 3 p.m. Tuesday, only 484 registered voters in Comal County cast ballots for New Braunfels, Comal and Marion school district trustees, city council members in New Braunfels, Garden Ridge, Bulverde and Marion, and 18 proposed amendments to New Braunfelsâ city charter.
âWe just want to encourage people to get out and vote,â said Elections Administrator Cynthia Jaqua, who projected 80,000 voters to cast ballots during the nine-day early voting period and Election Day, Saturday, May 1.
