New Braunfels City Council members on Monday are expected to consider an ordinance amendment that would restrict parking around the landscaped islands that lie on the outside edges of the cityâs Main Plaza.
According to city officials, the Parks and Recreation Department has made a request to restrict parking around those landscaped islands.Â
The problem has been especially evident on the west side of Main Plaza, according to officials, where vehicles have obstructed the flow of traffic as well as preventing Parks Department employees from accessing the landscaping and downtown public restrooms to perform cleaning and maintenance.Â

Mondayâs New Braunfels City Council meeting will feature some housekeeping items from the May 1 election and the swearing-in of the cityâs next police chief.
Council members are expected to canvass the election of two members of the council, which would make the results official.
Incumbent Harry Bowers and Lawrence Spradley captured races for council seats representing districts 3 and 4, respectively.
According to unofficial results, Bowers defeated challenger Kevin Robles, with 1,027 votes (84.25%) to Roblesâ 192 votes (15.75%). Spradley defeated Joy Harvey, 522 votes to 475, or 52.36% to 47.64%.
Council members will also canvass the results of the special election, where all 18 proposed city charter amendments were approved by voters.
New Braunfels City Council members on Monday are expected to discuss and consider a recommendation by the New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation approving an expenditure of up to $400,000 to Frantic Holdings, LLC for a project that would bring high-speed broadband infrastructure and services to commercial customers in downtown and other areas of the city.
As part of an effort to increase broadband availability, the EDC in May 2020 contracted with Alk Development Services to oversee the project planâs development with Frantic that would bring broadband services at affordable rates to downtown businesses initially.
Frantic plans to utilize existing street poles to deliver backbone routes and connections to each building, using available city and New Braunfels Utility easements as necessary.Â
