Movie scenes to watch for filmed in New Bedford, Fall River locations

NEW BEDFORD Many things define New Bedford’s history. Moviemaking may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but it has been thriving here for nearly 100 years. Hollywood has made the SouthCoast a prime location since 1922. Seeing notable landmarks or familiar scenery on the big screen excites locals, but film companies also can boost tourism and local businesses.   “We hope to have an influx of visitors to the city that are movie buffs that want to visit the place that they saw in one of the films,” said former Director of Tourism, in New Bedford, Dagny Ashley. “Movies attract tourists,” added Ashley, who recently left the position to head the tourism office in Quincy. “It provides a destination image and it also increases branding and helps with marketing a destination. It gives an overall economic impact for all the cities and towns and the state as a whole.”

Vineyard Wind Resubmits Plan for Energy Farm Off Mass Coast

Vineyard Wind Resubmits Plan for Energy Farm Off Mass. Coast Vineyard Wind has told the Biden administration it will resubmit its plans for an 800-megawatt wind farm 15 miles south of Martha s Vineyard. In the waning weeks of the Trump administration, the offshore wind company suddenly pulled its construction and operations plan, or COP, off the table, fueling speculation in some corners that the project was in trouble. At the time, they said they yanked the plan because they had changed their mind about the size and power of turbines they wanted to use. But today, only days after President Joe Biden was sworn in, Vineyard Wind said no changes are needed in its COP, and that it believes the federal permitting process should be able to move forward before the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, or BOEM.

NEW BEDFORD  Ed Anthes-Washburn, who has served as the New Bedford Port Authority Director since 2015, is stepping down from his role to take a job in the private sector. Anthes-Washburn, 35, will join Crowley Maritime Corporation, a vessel management and marine and energy solutions company, as director of business development for its shipping division.  The company has headquarters in Florida but locations throughout the country. Anthes-Washburn will remain in New Bedford. It s bittersweet, I ve dedicated so much to this organization, but I think an opportunity like this with a company like Crowley is very unique and very exciting for me at this point, the soon-to-be former port director said.
