New Bedford Police Help Avoid Horrific Ending [PHIL-OSOPHY]
Most police officers are exceptional individuals with a passion to serve their community. You can almost spot the officers I m talking about, who can be identified by their professionalism, mannerisms, traits and qualities, their guts and bravery, and a deep knowledge of laws.
Their functions include maintaining order and controlling crime, patrolling areas where criminality may occur and responding to robberies, brawls and domestic disturbances, one of the most dangerous, high-risk calls.
In the area of providing social services, the police help people who need emergency assistance, whether it s giving first-aid, helping deliver a baby who can t wait any longer or finding lost children and grandparents.

NEW BEDFORD Amid some public outcry, the New Bedford Police Department is committed to thoroughly investigating how its officers handled a car crash involving City Councilor Hugh Dunn, said Lt. Scott Carola, the department s public information officer.
Dunn hit two parked vehicles at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 1. He told police in a statement days later that he had taken Benadryl for dog allergies and that his memory of the crash was fuzzy.
The primary officer on scene did not administer a field sobriety test, which some people on social media are questioning. Dunn received no citations or charges.
The incident in which New Bedford Ward 3 City Councilor Hugh Dunn struck two other vehicles in a downtown crash last weekend is now under investigation by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Gregg Miliote, spokesperson for District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III, confirmed to WBSM News that the D.A.’s Office has joined in the investigation.
“After speaking with the New Bedford Police and being provided with investigative materials, we have decided to assign a Massachusetts State Trooper to work with New Bedford Police to further investigate this case,” Miliote said.

Dunn was involved in a crash just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, in which he struck two parked vehicles and a curb with his 2015 Hyundai Genesis. Dunn moved his vehicle from the spot of the crash to the other side of the parking lot in which it occurred, leading witnesses to call into police that it was a hit-and-run incident.
