Kisumu airport to get Sh135m cargo shed Wednesday February 03 2021 By ELIZABETH OJINA Summary The Kisumu International Airport will have a new cargo transit shed within the next six months and hand a boost to fresh produce growers in the western Kenya region. The Sh135million facility will be constructed by the Kenya Airports Authority(KAA) in partnership with ground handling company, Tradewinds Aviation Services Limited. Tradewinds Aviation head of business development and projects Fiona Omondi said the construction will begin soon as Kenya Airports Authority approves the architectural drawings. The Kisumu International Airport will have a new cargo transit shed within the next six months and hand a boost to fresh produce growers in the western Kenya region.

Kenyan vegetable export earnings dropped to US220 mln in 2020 In 2020, Kenya s vegetable exports have dropped to 24 billion shillings (about US$220 million) as compared to US$248 million the year before. CEO of the Fresh Produce Consortium of Kenya, Okisegere Ojepat, issued a statement saying that Kenya shipped approximately 60,000 tons of vegetables compared to 73,000 tons in 2019. He forecast that the continued spread of COVID-19 in the key markets for Kenyan vegetables will also affect the performance of the sector this year. According to the industry lobby, the key vegetable exports include French beans and snow peas, which are mostly sold to the European Union and Britain.
