I would be extremely concerned about the substantial additional administration and official inspections which the industry will have to complete,” comments Nigel Jenney, CEO of the Fresh Produce Consortium. “The magnitude of those new official requirements when exporting from the EU to the UK will have a material cost on the supply chain and beyond.”

Kenyan vegetable export earnings dropped to US220 mln in 2020 In 2020, Kenya s vegetable exports have dropped to 24 billion shillings (about US$220 million) as compared to US$248 million the year before. CEO of the Fresh Produce Consortium of Kenya, Okisegere Ojepat, issued a statement saying that Kenya shipped approximately 60,000 tons of vegetables compared to 73,000 tons in 2019. He forecast that the continued spread of COVID-19 in the key markets for Kenyan vegetables will also affect the performance of the sector this year. According to the industry lobby, the key vegetable exports include French beans and snow peas, which are mostly sold to the European Union and Britain.
