The victim was on his hands knees when Pearce threw more than 15 uppercut punches, connecting at least 10 to the man’s face. He then kneed the victim in the head around five times, kicked him in the stomach and spat on him. As the man lay on the floor, Pearce than began the head-stomping while repeatedly stating he was going to kill him. Pearce was wearing leather boots during the attack. Another flatmate attempted to intervene but was pushed out of the room by Pearce, who then continued to kick and punch the victim. Police were called to the address and Pearce told the officer “everything was fine”, a summary of facts stated.

Police were on the tail of an alleged South Taranaki car thief for nearly six hours before they finally caught up with their man. South Taranaki police officers were alerted to the first vehicle theft around 7.15am on Wednesday, in Kapuni, Senior Sergeant Grant Roper said. That was the first of four thefts from “rural locations”, that saw officers drive close to 100km from Opunake to Waverley in the hunt for the car thief.
