The extension of the New START nuclear arms reduction agreement with the U.S. go into effect today, on February 3, Moscow has announced, praising the deal as a step in the right direction for international stability.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the treaty was formally signed without any amendments or additions, in effect preserving the arms control accord as it currently exists until February 5, 2026.
The Ministry hailed the diplomatic breakthrough as a cornerstone of international security and expressed hope that it would “leave behind the trend towards dismantling of arms control and nonproliferation mechanisms, which have become prevalent during years of destructive U.S. policies.
Number of inspections within New START to remain unchanged, says Russian ambassador
MOSCOW, February 3. /TASS/. The number of inspections within the prolonged New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) will remain the same, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel on Wednesday.

Washington, Feb 4 : The US on Wednesday extended the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) with Russia for five years, said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Extending the New START Treaty ensures we have verifiable limits on Russian ICBMs, SLBMs, and heavy bombers until February 5, 2026, said Blinken, adding that the extension makes the United States, US allies and partners, and the world safer , Xinhua news agency reported.
