Carlsbad schools said students will be back in class on March 29
Carlsbad schools moved to virtual learning environments on March 13, 2020.
Superintendent of Carlsbad Schools Dr. Gerry Washburn said Carlsbad students would return to five-day a week in-person learning on March 29, 2021.
The announcement followed a decision by the New Mexico Public Education Department and Department of Health on Monday that all public schools could fully reopen by April 5.
“We are phasing out what we’ve been calling ‘hybrid’ learning, although there will continue to be a fully remote option for those families who choose it,” said Public Education Secretary Ryan Stewart in a news release.

“I bring you good news today – news you’ve been waiting to hear for a year: We’re going back to school,” Public Education Secretary Ryan Stewart said. “The time has come to get back to the gold-standard in education, which is students and teachers together in classrooms. Our message to New Mexico public schools is that you can and should move as quickly as possible to get everyone who wants it back for in-person learning.”

The Deming Public Schools announced it will be starting full in-person learning on April 6, 2021. The district released a brief statement on Monday shortly after the NMPED made its announcement. The following is the DPS press release:

While the New Mexico Public Education Department was holding a news conference Monday afternoon to announce that all schools in the state should be back to full, in-person learning April 5 meaning all students who want to attend school in person full time will be able to the Silver School District was announcing that it was going to have to shut down its primary high school for 10 days due to a positive test for COVID-19.
Silver High School Athletic Director Gary Allison announced Monday that all high school sporting contests are canceled in the district for the rest of the week, while Curtis Clough, Silver Schools associate superintendent, said the entire high school would be shut down for 10 days.
