LAS CRUCES – Following a national search, Teresa Maria Linda Scholz has been selected as New Mexico State University’s first vice president for equity, inclusion and diversity. The search committee for the position was appointed in August 2020. The university states in a news release that the new position was inspired by a need for NMSU to take strong action toward creating an environment that reflects the diverse population at NMSU, and to provide opportunities and tools for students and employees. NMSU President John Floros announced the appointment to the campus community on Wednesday. “Dr. Scholz will be a tremendous addition to our university,” Floros stated in a news release. “She has the knowledge and skills to lead the effort to make NMSU more equitable and inclusive, and more welcoming for our diverse community from this region and around the world. Buildings typically get taken for granted because they are there all the time; they fade into the background of our mental landscape. That happens everywhere, I suppose.
