McLaughlin has served as the spaceport’s interim director since July, after former Executive Director Dan Hicks took administrative leave following allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of power. ...................... The Spaceport Authority later dismissed Hicks after the state auditor released a third-party report in November that detailed allegations of improper procurement practices, excessive travel spending, and lack of proper financial oversight under Hicks’ administration, possibly costing the spaceport hundreds of thousands of dollars.

LAS CRUCES – Scott McLaughlin has been tapped as Spaceport America s new executive director, New Mexico Economic Development Secretary Alicia Keyes announced Tuesday. McLaughlin, the spaceport s business development director, had been serving as interim director since July while his predecessor, Dan Hicks, was on administrative leave. Hicks was fired by the New Mexico Spaceport Authority in October amid an investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of authority, as well as ongoing controversy about local gross receipts taxes supporting the spaceport.
