USDA provides $105K for NM projects | Roswell Daily Record

Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record New Mexico entities have received $105,000 in U.S. Department of Agriculture funding for three projects intended to help control plant diseases and plant pests in New Mexico and nearby regions. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the USDA announced Tuesday the 2021 funding for its plant pest and disease management and disaster prevention program (PPDMDPP). The agency made 354 awards nationwide for a total of $62.5 million for the pest and disease management program. It also awarded an additional $7.5 million for 29 projects under its National Clean Plant Network program, but none of those projects are coordinated by New Mexico entities.

Arrowhead Center at NMSU extends its binational entrepreneurial reach into Sonora, Mexico

FIX provides opportunities for inventors and entrepreneurs in the Borderplex region to participate in bilingual accelerator programs, receive assistance with prototyping, CAD modeling, and manufacturing for physical products.

NMSU Extension director named to National 4-H Council board of trustees

The National 4-H Council has announced the election of an New Mexico State University College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences associate dean to its board of trustees. Jon Boren, director of the NMSU Cooperative Extension Service, is among two new members to the board. Jon Boren, associate dean of New Mexico State University’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and director of the NMSU Cooperative Extension Service, has been named to the National 4-H Council board of trustees. Jinfa Zhang Receives 2020 Cotton Genetics Research Award

Jinfa Zhang, a professor, Cotton Breeding, Genetics, and Genomics, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, is the 2020 Cotton Genetics Research Award winner. The announcement was made during the 2021 Beltwide Cotton Improvement Conference, which convened as part of the virtual 2021 Beltwide Cotton Conferences, coordinated by the National Cotton Council. In Zhang s nomination, Jane Dever, a professor of cotton breeding at Texas A&M AgriLife Research, said he deserved the award for making not only genetic resources available but also rigorously peer-reviewed scientific knowledge unreservedly accessible to the cotton genetics research community, as we all work together to confront future challenges together.
