Deputy Police Chief Andrew Bowen, a 19-year veteran with New Mexico State Universitys Police Department, has been named interim chief of the department effective December 21, 2020 by NMSU President John Floros. Another search will be conducted after the pandemic is over to find a permanent replacement for Chief Stephen Lopez, who is retiring after more than 33 years with the department.
Chief Lopez had a stellar career at NMSU and he will be missed. Our best wishes for success will follow him as he continues his education at NMSU and his other future endeavors, Floros said.
A team of experts from New Mexico State Universitys College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences recently led a virtual discussion on artificial intelligence in agriculture as part of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agricultures convention held last month. Rolando A. Flores, dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University, was one of the presenters at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agricultures convention in November.
Participants included ACES Dean Rolando A. Flores, ACES alumnus Mario Allegri and ACES faculty members Derek Bailey, Lara Prihodko and Manoj Shukla. Other presenters at the convention, held Nov. 24 via Zoom, included representatives from Purdue University and Cenfotec University.

SPACEPORT AMERICA A company developing and testing a mass accelerator with the aim of launching satellites into space orbit using kinetic energy instead of rockets is expanding at New Mexico’s Spaceport America, Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes announced Tuesday.
SpinLaunch signed a lease at Spaceport America in 2019 and has since invested in test facilities and an integration facility. The company is now set to hire an additional 59 highly paid workers and complete the build of its suborbital centrifugal launch system for its next phase of development, according to EDD.
