NMSU rodeo team welcomes new coach, heads to national finals Carlos Andres López View Comments LAS CRUCES - Brice Baggarley fulfilled a longtime dream when he took the helm of the New Mexico State University rodeo team last month. The Washington state native who most recently served as the head athletic trainer at Mayfield High School in Las Cruces began his new role as head coach of the NMSU rodeo team on May 3, overseeing the men’s and women’s divisions. Baggarley hails from a rodeo family and has deep connections to the NMSU team. He was a team member from 2011 to 2013 as an undergraduate and later served as an assistant coach from 2013 to 2015. He graduated from NMSU in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training.

View Comments LAS CRUCES - A new food, energy and water nexus program launched by the Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems at New Mexico State University’s College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences will bring together researchers from across the NMSU campus to find solutions to problems found across the state. The nexus will unite faculty with different expertise from four colleges –ACES, Engineering, Business and Arts and Sciences. CESFAS is a hub of transdisciplinary and collaborative research that facilitates and develops sustainable food and value-added agricultural business. Efren Delgado, co-director of CESFAS and associate professor of food science and technology, leads the nexus program with help from Jay Lillywhite, co-director of CESFAS and professor of agribusiness management and marketing. Natalie Goldberg, a former co-director of CESFAS, started the nexus project in the summer of 2020.

NMSU STEM Outreach Center to offer in-person, online camps this summer Adriana M. Chávez View Comments LAS CRUCES - Area middle-schoolers can participate in in-person and online summer camps offered by the STEM Outreach Center at New Mexico State University. The camps will run weekly from June 7 through July 23. All camps are half-days with morning and afternoon sessions. “We are offering 12 different camps this summer for a wide variety of interests, including drones, engineering, hiking, nature, programming and zombies,” said Paige Wheeler, program specialist for the STEM Outreach Center. One camp, Moving Montañas Outdoors, will meet in person at the La Cueva picnic area near Dripping Springs. Campers will go on easy hikes and explore local wildlife and plant life. Hikes and activities will be led by local experts from Friends of the Organ Mountains.
