SANTA FE Outdoor Recreation Director Axie Navas has been elected to chair an organization of 13 states where developing and protecting recreation opportunities are now a policy priority, New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) Secretary Alicia J. Keyes announced Tuesday.

SANTA FE – Three high-tech New Mexico companies will receive New Mexico Small Business Innovation Research (NMSBIR) Grants to help their businesses thrive, announced New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes.
The three companies receiving awards for this round of the grant are: UbiQD in Los Alamos; Mesa Photonics in Santa Fe. Each of these companies is developing technology that will greatly benefit mankind and are contributing to New Mexico’s status as a leader in the fields of science and technology.
Monday, Jan. 18 will be the birthday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King’s message of putting aside our differences and working together, and of peacefully pushing for positive change, has never been more important than it is today.
Carlsbad has a wonderful organization called the MLK Jr. Scholarship Committee. For decades, the Committee has celebrated Dr. King’s birthday with three days of activities. They’ve had a fundraiser steak banquet on Saturday evening, a church service on Sunday, and a march on Monday, followed by a short ceremony at Carlsbad’s MLK Park. Last year, local attorney Nate Banks talked about his father’s participation in Dr. King’s marches at Saturday’s dinner. Sunday’s church services always draw singers from around town, who practice together for the weeks leading up to the event. The march, which begins on the courthouse lawn, has always one of the best events of the weekend. Last year, we enjoyed getting to listen to Dr. Joy James-Foste
Navy decides not to hold training here in early 2021
The Roswell Air Center staff had some progress on its latest hangar project to share, but also some disappointing news regarding military pilot training for early 2021.
Western LLC, the developer of the planned wide-body hangar at the Air Center, is working with the city of Roswell on the ground lease for the Air Center property at the same time it is negotiating the sublease with the tenant, Ascent Aviation Services of Arizona, said Western president Brad Henderson.
He talked about the project during a Thursday meeting of the City of Roswell Airport Advisory Commission.
