Harborfest and the City of Oswego’s Independence Day Parade have both been canceled for the second year in a row, Mayor Billy Barlow announced Monday.
Barlow cited “issues created by the Covid-19 pandemic” for the cancellation of Harborfest, which typically draws about 75,000 people over four days in late July for music, attractions, vendors and fireworks. Barlow said it’s impossible to screen attendees or limit crowd capacity for a free event with no specific points of entry.
The Harborfest Board of Directors also cited “the unpredictable nature of the pandemic and related issues such as the variances, vaccines, vaccine hesitancy, etc.,” but expressed hope for returning in 2022.
