SARATOGA SPRINGS Wait, the race isn’t until next week.
Malathaat and jockey John Velazquez were working in company with stablemate Zaajel on Saturday morning in preparation for the Coaching Club American Oaks.
The Saratoga Race Course main track is always a beehive of activity for the first set of gallops and breezes following the 8 a.m. renovation break, since the track is in pristine condition and everybody wants to take advantage of that.
So it’s not unusual to encounter some traffic trouble when you’re trying to get your work done. Malathaat and Zaajel did just that, coming around the turn for a half-mile breeze and running up behind two horses from John Terranova’s barn.
Biz Markie Dead at 57
Biz Markie, the self-proclaimed Human Beatbox and renowned rapper known for his 1989 hit song, Just a Friend, has died at 57.
According to TMZ on Friday (July 16), Biz Markie passed away at a hospital in Baltimore at 6:25 p.m. today. A source confirmed the New York-bred rapper s death. His wife, Tara Hall, was beside Biz, born Marcel Hall, when he passed, reportedly holding his hand during his last moments. Nursing staff were also present with him and his family.
He reportedly died due to complications from diabetes.

SARATOGA SPRINGS Trainer Jim Bond didn’t mind this phone call.
“Kiaran McLaughlin [jockey Luis Saez’s agent] called me and said, ‘We’ve got a big scratch, ” Bond said on Friday.
The big scratch made Bond’s horse tough to catch, as Saez got Rinaldi to the front and held off a hard charge from several horses to win the Grade III Forbidden Apple by a half-length over Value Proposition at Saratoga Race Course.
On paper, Flying Scotsman appeared to be the only other speed horse with the potential to tax Rinaldi early in the race, but Flying Scotsman was scratched by trainer Jack Sisterson in the morning, leaving it up to Saez to measure Rinaldi’s speed on the front end without any serious pressure.
