Waddington town supervisor to deploy to NYC to fight COVID-19

WADDINGTON — Former Democratic candidate for New York’s 116th Assembly seat and current Waddington Town Supervisor Alex V. Hammond will be deploying to New York City to help in the fight against COVID-19. According to a release issued Sunday, Mr. Hammond was promoted to the rank of captain in the New York Army National Guard when he was re-activated. He will be stationed at the Javits Center in Manhattan, which was converted into a field hospital last spring, and will assist there with vaccine distribution. Mr. Hammond was first activated to assist in the pandemic over the spring, and served for three months, working as a personnel officer in Utica.

Hammond has been promoted to the rank of Captain in the New York Army National Guard and has been activated to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Hammond ran for the New York Assembly District 116 in 2020, challenging the Republican incumbent Mark Walczyk. Last spring, when the pandemic broke out, both Assemblyman Walczyk and Supervisor Hammond were called to active duty. Walczyk served just over a month while Hammond served just over three months. This second activation for Supervisor Hammond comes in the wake of uncertain times in the country. Just a week ago, the US Capitol building was stormed by protesters prompting the New York Army National Guard to send 1,000 troops to Washington D.C.

Suffolk Police Officer Returns From Army Deployment Overseas

When Officer Bethany Green returned to work as a patrolwoman in the Suffolk County Police Department after her deployment in the Middle East, she presented flags and a plaque to the third precinct where she works.   Suffolk County Police Third Precinct Inspector John Rowan and Deputy Inspector Darrel Simmons welcomed Green back to work and accepted the plaque.   Green, a patrol officer in the Third Precinct, is also a Major in the United States Army. She recently returned from a deployment in the Middle East.   According to her online profile, Green serves as a JAG attorney in the New York Army National Guard and is a former Suffolk County assistant district attorney. She served in Afghanistan in 2011 to 2012 and joined the police force in 2013. She was also a Stony Brook University 40 Under 40 honoree.
