Two Capital Region National Guard units have new commanders.
New York Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Thomas Spencer, a two-tour veteran of the Iraq War and the Persian Gulf War, has assumed command of the Troy-based 42nd Infantry Division during a ceremony at New York National Guard Headquarters in Latham. Spencer replaces Maj. Gen. Steven Ferrari of Winslow Township, N.J. .
Rosemary Engert from Conesus, N.Y., and assigned to the 152nd Engineer Company received a promotion to the rank of private on February 28, 2021.
Michael Sick from Avon, N.Y., and assigned to the Company D, 152nd Brigade Engineer Battalion received a promotion to the rank of staff sergeant on March 1, 2021.
Phillip Smith from Dansville, N.Y., and assigned to the Company A, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry received a promotion to the rank of private 1st class on March 3, 2021.
