16 killed, 14 hurt in crash between two buses carrying mine workers near U.S.-Mexico border Nelson Oliveira
At least 16 people were killed and 14 others were injured when two buses carrying mine workers crashed in the Mexican state of Sonora early Tuesday, authorities said.
The vehicles were transporting employees at the Noche Buena gold mine, about 80 miles south of the border with Arizona, when they crashed into each other around 3:30 a.m., the Sonora prosecutor’s office said in a news release.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The 13 men and three women who died were all traveling in a smaller bus operated by a private company, according to the release. Their ages ranged from 18 to 42 years old and all were Mexican citizens, authorities said.
