“Dianne understands that NYC has lost nearly 35,000 jobs in the arts and culture industry since the pandemic began, which has devastated our economy and ravaged an industry that makes New York truly thrive,” a spokesperson for Morales’s campaign tells Artnet News. Morales wants to “prioritize supporting theaters and museums and their workers,” but also understands the role culture plays in education and mental health. “Her daughter was struggling until she found the arts in school so it’s something Dianne is very in tune with,” the spokesperson adds.

Arraignments can be quick hearings, often over in minutes, at which the judge either will or won’t set bail, and the accused person learns whether or not they can be released immediately. Most significantly, it’s the first opportunity a defendant has to come face to face with the system and the people that will be deciding their fate.

At the time, Cuomo was being accused of covering up nursing home deaths in the state, facing fallout over a threatening call he made to Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Queens) and had a fresh accusation of sexual harassment from a former aide, Lindsey Boylan.
“The question we are asking is how do we make it impossible for our governor to ever run again?”
