After a delay of several days, Cuomo said the state is adopting new guidance on masks that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released last week.

NY to adopt new CDC mask guidelines

New York will adopt the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines starting Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said at a press briefing Monday. “We have to reopen, we have to reopen smart, we have to reopen with a cautious eye,” Cuomo said. “We have to get back to life and living. And we have to do it the way New Yorkers do it, we have to do it quickly and robustly.” Starting Wednesday people in New York who are fully vaccinated will no longer need to wear a mask or social distance except where it is required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

NY Will Adopt New CDC Mask Guidance

3:06 Governor Andrew Cuomo says New York will adopt the new CDC guidelines on masks on May 19. People fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will no longer have to wear masks outdoors or indoors, and won’t have to socially distance.   Cuomo says those who have received all of their required vaccine doses two or more weeks ago will no longer have to wear masks outside, or inside stores, gyms and offices.   “If you are vaccinated, you are safe,” Cuomo said. “No masks, no social distancing.”    The fully vaccinated can also travel without having to quarantine or take a COVID test, but the tests might still be required for international flights returning to the U.S.

The New York City Marathon, the crown jewel of long distance races, is off and running again after being sidelined last year by the coronavirus pandemic. The iconic event will feature a reduced field from 55,000 to 33,000 runners, but participants and organizers said they are delighted that the premier race is finally back on track. “This will be an unprecedented and historic year,” race director Ted Metellus said in a statement. “As we stage a safe and memorable race for the 50th running, this year’s marathon will showcase our great city’s strength, inspiration, and determination.” The 33,000 participants in the Nov. 7 race puts the event at 60% capacity and within the guidelines for such an event, said Gov. Cuomo.

More Reopening Plans Announced In New York State

Governor Cuomo is allowing the Knicks and Nets to have 50 percent of their seating dedicated to vaccinated only fans for the playoffs, meaning more people inside. Knicks Owner James Dolan is happy about that. “We are shooting to have more than 13-thousand fans at the Garden, the majority of whom will be sitting in vaccinated sections shoulder to shoulder.” The state is allowing the New York City Marathon to go on at 60 percent capacity in November or about 33 thousand runners. The Tribeca Film festival will wrap up June 19 th at 100 percent capacity at Radio City Music Hall in front of an all vaccinated and a mask free audience.
