STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. The percentage of New York teachers applying for retirement increased by 64% by the end of 2020, a new analysis from the New York Post found.
The Post reported that the drastic increase is partly due to working conditions amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Data from the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System (NYSTRS) shows that a total of 1,561 teachers filed retirement applications between August and November 2020, The Post reported. That’s an increase from 949 applications over the same time period in 2019.
