LONG ISLAND, NY As New Yorkers focus on reconstruction after waging a battle against the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the focus is on a green economy and environmentalists are lauding the sea of initiatives rolled out Wedneday.
On Long Island, those plans include the two largest offshore wind projects in the nation, 60 miles offshore from Montauk and 20 miles off Jones Beach, Cuomo said. And training for new, green jobs is slated to take place right on Long Island, Cuomo added.

Hassman, of RER Energy Group, was the site manager and installer of the 25 rows of solar panels on the east side of state Route 86. He said the farm has been operational since Dec. 28. Friday’s event was a formality.

La Plaza de Virginia Will Offer 46 Affordable and Supportive Homes for Seniors with Community Senior Service Center and Café

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the start of construction on a $17 million affordable housing development that will offer 46 affordable homes for seniors in Buffalo. Known as La Plaza de Virginia, the development will also include a community senior service center and café. The developer is Hispanos Unidos de Buffalo, a nonprofit organization that provides integrated social services to underserved communities in the Buffalo area. La Plaza de Virginia is part of Governor Cuomo s unprecedented $20 billion, five-year affordable Housing Plan.

New York State has announced plans to launch a $20 million training institute to train thousands of workers in areas related to offshore wind development.
The State University of New York (SUNY) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) together announced the Offshore Wind Training Institute. At $20 million, New York said the training institute marks is the largest public offshore wind investment by any state in the U.S. The institute will seek to train about 2,500 workers who will support New York State’s goal of developing 9,000 MW of offshore wind power generation by 2035, which Governor Cuomo outlined in his 2021 State of the State address.
