Two charter schools sue Buffalo School Board to remain open

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Two Buffalo charter schools are suing the Buffalo School Board to prevent the board from shutting them down.
The lawsuit alleges that, the Buffalo Public School Board âused outdated and incorrect standards when reviewing Westminsterâs charter renewal application.â
If the lawsuit is denied, 1,000 school students will need to find a new school.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â State Supreme Court Justice Emilio Colaiacovo ruled Thursday the Williamsville and Orchard Park school districts must offer full-time in-person learning to students.
The districts must offer full-time in-person learning beginning Monday and continue to offer remote/hybrid learning to those who want to continue with the current model.
Judge Colaiacovo issued a temporary order last week that ordered so long as community transmission rates of COVID-19 are at or near 100 per 100,000 people, the Williamsville and Orchard Park school districts may return to full-time in-person learning.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. (WKBW) â Supreme Court Judge Emilio Colaiacovo has ordered the New York State Department of Health to revisit its school social distancing guidelines by Friday.
Parents are suing both the Orchard Park and Williamsville School Districts to return to school in person full time in Judge Colaiavcovo s court.
Both school districts said they can not accommodate all students with six feet of social distance, but can with three.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) â Friday, New York State released updated guidance regarding in-person learning. The state s updated guidance said schools can reduce the minimum physical distance between students in classrooms from six feet to three feet.
On March 19, the CDC issued a new recommendation that with face coverings students at K-12 schools should maintain a distance of at least three feet in classroom settings.
Monday, the Williamsville Central School District released its plan for a return to in-person learning in response to the new state guidance.
