(WBNG) Despite a year in which millions of jobs were lost, the first signs of a recovering workforce are starting to emerge in the Southern Tier. Broome-Tioga Workforce Director Bob Murphy told 12 News Wednesday he is starting to be encouraged about the future. He said Ocean City taking over the old Toys R Us in Johnson City is a great step, bringing with it 47 new jobs. Murphy said there are still several challenges the region is facing; he said the increased unemployment insurance has incentivized many people to stay home and not re-enter the workforce. However, of the people who are currently looking for jobs, Murphy said they are a highly motivated group with the ability to achieve great things.
