(WHEC)  New York State Police Wednesday arrested the man they shot after they say he held a woman against her will with a butcher knife and then made an aggressive movement toward officers while holding the knife. Joshua Bennett, 37, was charged with first degree burglary, menacing a police officer, third degree criminal possession of a weapon and second degree menacing. Bennett was shot once near the shoulder on Friday, April 16, according to troopers. State Police said he was released from Strong Memorial Hospital Wednesday afternoon, processed at the State Police Station in Rochester and taken to the Monroe County Jail to be held on a New York State Parole Warrant.

3 Utica NY men face felony weapon charges after vehicle stop

Observer-Dispatch Three Utica residents face felony weapon charges following a vehicle stop in West Utica, city police said. At about 10:50 p.m. Thursday, GIVE Strike Team members, working in conjunction with New York State Parole officers, attempted to stop a grey Jeep Cherokee on Schuyler Street, officials said. Upon attempting to stop it, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed through West Utica.  Ultimately, the vehicle stopped on a dead end street on the 1200 block of Butternut Avenue, and three people fled from the vehicle, police said. The individuals were apprehended a short distance away.  As the officers backtracked the area of the pursuit, they found a loaded .40-caliber Glock handgun, police said.
