With or without him
Politicians who say the violent insurrection of January 6 “isn’t us” would like us to pretend we hear and see no evil. Well, cat’s out of that bag. We all saw and heard the evil, and it is us.
I’ve spent more time on Twitter in the past nine days than I have in the past seven years. So much for a news-dry January. Am I still in shock from the events of January 6? It appears so. Why? I shouldn’t have been shocked, or surprised, or startled or stunned or staggered or stupefied. No one should have been, yet the violence we all witnessed was still, to most of us, totally unthinkable. If we don’t know our history, most of us do have a passing familiarity with Trump’s speeches and tweets over the years. There were some logical conclusions we might have drawn. Such as, he was never going to go quietly.

WASHINGTON – Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), David Cicilline (D-R.I.), and Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) introduced an article of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Jan. 11.

The impeachment resolution is sponsored by Cicilline, with Lieu and Raskin serving as the two lead co-sponsors. It is also co-sponsored by another 211 members of the House.
The article of impeachment charges the outgoing president with a count of “incitement of insurrection” for his actions on Jan. 6, when he delivered a speech inciting his supporters to lay siege to the U.S. Capitol, an action that temporarily halted the counting of Electoral College votes and resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including an officer of the U.S. Capitol Police.

Middlebury, a private liberal arts college in Vermont, revoked President Donald Trump s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani s honorary degree on Tuesday. Middlebury College has made the decision to revoke the honorary degree it presented to the presidential attorney Rudolph Giuliani in 2005, and has communicated this to Mr. Giuliani s office, the college said in a statement on January 12.
The college s decision followed remarks from College President Laurie Patton on Sunday, when she accused Giuliani of fomenting the violent uprising and said it was the college s responsibility for safeguarding and improving our fragile democracy.

Republicans control the Missouri House 114-47, and Representative Merideth says he’s sent a letter to House Speaker Rob Vescovo, R-Arnold, requesting an investigation.
On December 14, Giuliani testified via zoom before the House Special Committee on Government Oversight in Jefferson City. Merideth notes Missouri House rules require that witnesses testifying before House committees sign an affidavit that their testimony, to the best of their knowledge, is true on penalty of perjury.
