HONG KONG (Reuters Breakingviews) - BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. Jones Lang LaSalle is late to a party. The $9 billion New York-listed company is weighing up a sale of its Chinese property management business for at least $500 million, per Bloomberg. Southeast Asian superapp Grab is likely to set a world record by selling itself into a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, run by U.S. tech venture capital investors Altimeter Capital Management.
The deal will value Grab somewhere between US$35 billion and US$40 billion. That would make it the largest deal for a blank check SPAC to date.

Ride-hailing company Grab Holdings will go public through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, that could value the Asia-based ride-hailing giant at more than $35 billion, making it the largest ever blank-check deal.
The Financial Times reported Wednesday that Grab, which also offers food delivery and mobile digital payments services, will raise $2.5 billion in total financing, with nearly $1.2 billion coming via a SPAC owned by tech-focused venture capital firm Altimeter Capital.
Grab could finalize an agreement to list with one of Altimeter Capital’s SPACs as soon as this week, the FT said. Grab has so far raised about $12 billion and has some $5 billion in reserves, according to the FT.

A pharmaceutical plant that was producing ingredients for Covid-19 vaccines developed by both AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson will exclusively supply the latter company after a mistake by workers spoiled millions of doses. US-based J&J said it was assuming full responsibility at the plant in Baltimore owned by Emergent BioSolutions. UK-based AstraZeneca said it would move Covid-19 vaccine production out of the facility to another location.
